Angel Baby: 18 Months & Sweet Little Shortcake: 1 Month!

Dear Angel Baby,

On the same day that you were 17 months old, you became a BIG SISTER!!!  More about that later, but for now, we’re focusing on you.  It really seems like the past 1.5 years has FLOWN by, and we have DEFINITELY exited the baby phase, and entered the toddler phase with you…..yay.

You’re really not talking that much (that we understand, at least).  There are words that we know that you can say, but you’ll say a word for a week or two, and then quit saying it.  Those words include:  bye bye, Daddy, and Mama.  The work ‘Hi’, comes and goes.  In just the past few days, I’ve noticed that you’ve started making the noise for ‘1-2-3 go’ before you throw something, and you say ‘go, go, go, go, go’ when you run through the house.  One word that came, and has stayed is uh-oh.  We’re trying to make you understand that ‘uh-oh’ is for when you drop something or fall, and not when you throw something on the ground.  I also think you’re kind of saying ball, dog, and out, as in out of your high chair.  These 3 are only sometimes, and are not very plain, at all.  You still off and on make the motor boat sound a pretty good bit.  You say ‘da’, ‘ba’, ‘blebleble’, and ‘dadadadadada ch’ all the time, but we haven’t figured out your language on what those mean yet.  You have this excited squeal with your mouth open, and you move your hands…..Meemel gets that a lot when you see her!

You’ve been giving kisses for a while, but in the past month, you’ve started adding the ‘muah’ noise, and it’s seriously the absolute cutest!  You blow kisses pretty frequently.  You were giving hugs for a while, but now they have become few and far between, for me at least…..Daddy still gets them a lot.  πŸ™‚

You have 10 teeth, and are working on 2 more!  You LOVE bath time (with the exception of rinsing your hair), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Sofia, bouncing on the bed, any song that includes hand motions, remotes, cell phones, pop up books, pulling your pajamas out of the drawers, climbing on things, eating lady bugs, pulling your diapers out of the diaper hanger, throwing things, balls, going outside, bubbles, and your paci.  We have started trying to take your paci away most of the time during the day, but usually you find one that you’ve stashed away, or you steal your sisters.  You’re starting to get pretty good at doing simple puzzles, and you clearly understand what we’re saying, it’s just a toss up if you actually choose to listen.  You hate dogs, or any animal, Dr, Pepper, being told no, and having something taken away from you.  You’ve started pitching little fits some, where you drop to the floor, and put your head down, screaming in very dramatic fashion, sometimes banging your head on the floor.

A typical day usually goes:  wake up around 7 and have some milk while watching Mickey, breakfast around 8:30, lunch around 11:30, nap usually from about 1-3, snack around 4, supper around 6:30, and then bedtime routine typically starts around 8:30, and consists of brushing teeth, fresh diaper, pj’s, milk while being rocked, and then we lay you down in your crib.  If you’re super worn out, you’ll go straight to sleep, but most of the time, you play around, bounce on the bed, and entertain yourself until about 9:30 when you finally go to sleep.  Most of the time, you sleep all night, unless there’s something going on with you.  When we brought your little sister home, you went for a couple weeks where you weren’t sleeping well at all….it was rough on Mama, Daddy, and Meemel.  We found out that you had an ear infection, then your antibiotic for that messed up your tummy, and then about a week after that you started getting a tooth.  I think now, we’re back to a routine, and things have gotten back to normal.

Your favorite foods are blueberries, grapes, BBQ chips, goldfish, green beans, ice cream, and sweet tea!  You also like strawberries, turkey, hot dogs, meatballs, French fries, baked beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, cereal, and pretty much any chip like thing, or junk food that we’re eating.

You finally seem to be catching up to your clothes size!  For the most part, you’re in 18 month clothes.  You wear a size 4 shoe, and size 4 diapers.  The last time we weighed you, you weighed 20 lbs.  You have SUPER curly hair, that I can do absolutely nothing with!  The most beautiful eyes, and eyelashes, and the absolute cutest little grin and sweetest little laugh!

When we first brought your little sister home, you pretty much ignored her, and didn’t have anything to do with her.  Now, a month later, I think you’re starting to understand that she’s real, and she’s here to stay.  You’re starting to give her lots of kisses, and you’ll walk up to her in her chair and start talking to her.  Cuteness!  You put lots of things in the chair with her, your socks, shoes, burp clothes, kitchen towels, and sometimes even her paci.  Occasionally you throw things at her, and you’ve got a good little arm, so you get in trouble for that!

We stinking love you Angel Baby!

Meeting baby sister! πŸ‘ΆπŸΌπŸŽ€

Dear Sweet Little Cupcake,

I cannot believe how fast one month went by!  We’re kind of starting to settle in as a family of 4, and things are getting a little easier.  That first month was rough!  Between your sister not sleeping well and being sick, and a newborn, it seemed like the first month was all crying and diaper changing, and since I was recovering, your Daddy was doing most of the diaper changing.

The first month went by so quickly!

You were born on March 27, 2017, and weighed in at 7 lb 15 oz, and 20 inches long.  I was induced into labor, but you were a stubborn little thing, and didn’t come into the world until you were ready!  The nurses kept checking me with no progress at all, and then all of a sudden it was time.  I only pushed twice, and you were into this world.

In love

Welcome to the world little one! πŸ‘ΆπŸΌπŸŒŽπŸ‘ΆπŸΌπŸŒŽ

When we were discharged from the hospital, on a Wednesday, your weight had dropped to 7 lb 8 oz, and by the time we went to your pediatrician on Friday, you were almost back to you birth weight at 7 lb 14 oz.  You cried and cried at this appointment when you got your shots, but I didn’t cry!  Then when we went back 1.5 weeks later for your 2 week checkup, you had only gained an additional 2 oz, so the Dr. was concerned with your weight gain, and wanted to see us back in another week to check your weight.  At that 2 week checkup, you did better with shots, and just cried for a few seconds.  When we went back for your weight checkup, you were up to 8 lb 8 oz, so we were good on the weight gain.  At that point, the Dr. wanted to see a weight gain of about 1 oz per day.

You look so much like your Daddy!  Every once in a while, I think you look like your sister did, but for the most part, I see all him.  We think you’re going to be completely opposite of your sister, she’s petite, with dark eyes, light brown curly hair, and for now, at least, it seems like you’re going to be bigger, with blond hair, and for now, your eyes are blue.  Doesn’t matter what, or whose features either of you have, you’re both gorgeous!

You love to eat, and you love to be snuggled!  You’re already starting to grow out of your newborn clothes, and we’ve switched you to size 1 diapers.  You’re a Mommy’s girl, for sure.  For now, at least.  I’m sure once I go back to work, and you’re with your Daddy more, you’ll become a Daddy’s girl, just like your sister is.  You’re starting to smile a little, and you have the cutest little mischievous grin!  I’m sure you and your sister are going to be double trouble in a couple years!

Daddy and his girls!

You had your first bottle at around 1 month, and you did ok, not great but ok.  Seems like you spit a lot of it out on your clothes, just because you weren’t real sure what was going on.  You’re getting better at it though.  You hardly spit up at all, like normal baby spit up, but about once per day you projectile vomit pretty much everything that you just ate.  It’s really gross, and it startles me every time, because it’s usually on me!  Our washing machine has definitely gotten a workout since you came along!

You sleep pretty well, usually only getting up twice a night to eat, around 1, and then again around 4 or 5.  When you get up around 7, you go back to sleep, but I go ahead and get up for the day most of the time.  When you wake again around 10, you’ve started staying awake for a little bit.  I love watching you get more and more aware of things!  The few days right around the 1 month mark you went through 3 days where you got up about 4 times per night, and during the day, you didn’t want to be put down.  Every time you were put down you started crying, and 1 of those days, you didn’t want to be held by anyone but me.  That was pretty rough, but thankfully, it has passed!

Little girl, you are such a blessing, and have changed our lives!  We stinking love you Shortcake!
